Frequently asked questions

Do you offer 24-hour emergency electrical service?

Yes. The office line (979) 543-7887 is answered Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The 24-hour emergency line (979) 616-1608 is answered around the clock, seven days a week. For power loss, sparking, burning smells, oilfield outages or anything unsafe, call the 24-hour line right away.

What areas does SCI Electrical serve?

SCI is based in El Campo, Texas and works throughout South Texas — Wharton, Bay City, Edna, Ganado, Louise, Hungerford, Victoria, and out to Houston, Austin and San Antonio for the right job. Mileage is free for customers inside El Campo; outside El Campo it is billed at a flat $1.80 per mile.

Do you give quotes over the phone?

No. SCI does not quote prices over the phone, because every job is different and a number given sight-unseen is usually wrong. We look at the work first and then give you a real quote. Our hourly labor rates are published openly on the rates page, so you always know what the clock costs before anyone starts.

Do you repair generators, pumps and motors?

Yes. Generator, pump and motor repair is core SCI work. We service and repair standby and portable generators, water and irrigation pumps, and electric motors for homes, farms, shops and oilfield sites — including diagnosis, rebuild, controls and wiring.

Do you install security camera systems?

Yes. SCI installs security camera systems for shops, yards, leases and homes — cameras, cabling, power supplies and recorders, wired and powered by licensed electricians so the system is done right the first time.

How much does SCI Electrical charge?

Residential work bills at $70/hr for the electrician and $40/hr for the helper. Commercial work bills at $75/hr and $45/hr. Welding is $125/hr. There is a 3-hour minimum on every job. Generators rent for $275/day, light towers for $125/day, and the backhoe is $75/hr. Oilfield and specialty work is quoted per project.

What are your after-hours rates?

After-hours service starts at 3:00 PM on weekdays and covers all day Saturday and Sunday. During that window the electrician bills at $187.50/hr and the helper at $112.50/hr. Call ahead and we will tell you exactly what to expect.

Is there a minimum charge for small jobs?

Yes — there is a 3-hour minimum on every job, residential or commercial. Getting a licensed electrician, a helper and the right equipment to your location has a real cost whether the fix takes ten minutes or all afternoon.

Do you handle oilfield electrical work?

Yes, oilfield electrical is one of SCI's specialties. We install and service power for tank batteries, pumps, motor controls, light plants and lease equipment across the South Texas oil patch, and we keep crews available for emergency outages.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. S.C.I. Electrical Services, LLC is a licensed Texas electrical contractor, TDLR EC #26584, and carries insurance. The company has been owner-operated by Sammy Cordero since 2008 — nearly 20 years in El Campo.
